Consider the Age of your Commercial Cooler
Most walk-in freezers and walk-in coolers last around 15 years, or sometimes longer with proper maintenance. If the cooler is around that 15 year mark and the cooler door has a serious problem, you may want to consider taking the bigger leap to replace the whole system. This way, you’re not investing a large amount on the door when you’re just going to have to install a new unit in the next year or so anyway.
On the other hand, if the door is younger and the door is in serious disrepair, a replacement will prevent you from having to make repeated repairs over its lifespan and ensures that the product inside maintains the proper temperature.
Replace a Safety Hazard
If the door to your freezer or cooler collects ice or heavy amounts of condensation, this can be a serious safety hazard for employees walking in and out of the space, especially if it begins to collect on the ground in front of the door. Most likely the door isn’t sealing properly, and while a gasket or door assist can be replaced, it may be that the door itself isn’t hanging properly. Replacing the door, assuming the rest of the cooler is in good condition, will save you from a potential injury on your staff.
Protect Your Product from Theft
If you take inventory of your product in the walk-in cooler or freezer and continually find shortages, there may be a theft issue. By installing a glass-front cooler or freezer door, you and your team will have a clear line of sight into the walk-in, and invisibility will be replaced with transparency, minimizing the opportunity to take product.
